Despite critical comments from President Donald Trump and other Republican lawmakers, the California High-Speed Rail project is still moving forward as planned with no work stoppages — or completion date — in sight.

President Donald Trump called California’s high-speed rail project “the worst managed project I think I’ve ever seen.”

DOGE certainly has high-speed rail in its crosshairs. Before DOGE co-chair Vivek Ramaswamy stepped down to pursue a run for governor of Ohio, he called high-speed rail “a wasteful vanity project, burning billions in taxpayer cash, with little prospect for completion in the next decade… Time to end the waste.”

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz says he has been investigating the California High-Speed Rail project, accusing the nation’s first publicly funded high-speed rail system of wasting taxpayer money and its governing board of a lack of transparency regarding costs.

The California inspector general tasked with reviewing the state’s high speed rail program issued a new report stating the first segment is likely to be more than three years behind schedule and faces a $6.

President Trump said Tuesday that he would investigate California’s high-speed rail plan, calling it “the worst-managed project” he has seen. “They have hundreds of billions of dollars of cost overruns,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office. “It’s impossible that something could cost that much.”

The California Office of the Inspector General warned that work on the initial segment could slip behind schedule.
